Medication Mistakes & Young Children

By October 20, 2014February 9th, 2017Medical Malpractice

According to a new report in the Journal of Pediatrics, a child suffers the consequences of a medication mistake every eight minutes in the United States. This 11-year study found that an average of 63,358 children suffer from over-medication, wrong medication, and similar mistakes every year, many of these due to hospital error and other forms of medical negligence.

During the course of this study, authors noticed a decline in at-home mistakes with cough and cold medicine. However, mistakes from doctors, hospital staff, and other healthcare professionals rose, pointing to much needed oversight in the medical community.
