Understanding Brain Injury Symptoms

In many instances, brain injury symptoms may not develop for several days or weeks after your injury. Therefore, it is crucial that you seek medical attention immediately following a blow to the head to ensure any injuries are diagnosed and treated in their early stages. Prompt brain injury treatment can significantly impact your recovery prognosis.

There are a wide range of symptoms associated with brain injuries. The particular symptoms you experience will vary based on the severity, type, and location of your brain injury. Seek medical attention at once if you notice one or more of the following symptoms after suffering a blow to the head:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Dizziness
  • Disorientation
  • Slurred speech
  • Loss of balance
  • Headaches
  • Sensitivity to light or sound
  • Sensory issues such as blurred vision, ringing in the ears, or a bad taste in the mouth
  • Depression
  • Mood swings
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Agitation
  • Sleeping more than normal
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Memory issues
  • Convulsions or seizures
  • Weakness or numbness in the extremities
